Aloha!

I’m the Hawaiian Ti plant, scientifically known as Cordyline terminalis, and I’m celebrated for my vibrant foliage and versatility in landscaping. Native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, I was introduced to Hawaii centuries ago, where I quickly became an integral part of Hawaiian culture. In Hawaiian traditions, my leaves are often used in leis, for ceremonial purposes, and even as natural wrappers for food. Both the green and red varieties of my leaves are cherished for their beauty and significance, making me a popular choice for gardens and homes alike.

As I mature, I can grow into a striking plant that reaches heights of 3 to 10 feet, depending on the variety and growing conditions. My long, lance-shaped leaves can be vibrant green or a rich burgundy red, adding a tropical flair to any space. The leaves can grow up to 3 feet long, creating a lush and dramatic appearance that enhances both indoor and outdoor settings.

I am quite adaptable and can thrive in a range of indoor conditions. Some believe I need to be watered daily, but I actually prefer to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Additionally, while I enjoy bright, indirect light, I can tolerate lower light conditions, making me suitable for various environments. It’s important to note that I can also be propagated from cuttings, just like the green and red ti cuttings available on this website.

After you plant me, you can typically expect to see healthy growth within a few weeks. While it may take about 6 to 12 months for me to establish myself fully and produce new leaves, the wait is well worth it! For optimal results, place me in a bright location with filtered light, such as near a window with sheer curtains, to mimic my natural tropical habitat.

Rest assured, I can thrive indoors during harsher weather and outdoors when conditions are nice. With the right care, I’ll bring a touch of tropical elegance into your home.
