Aloha!

My botanical name is Cibotium splendens. My Hawaiian name is Hapu'u-Pulu, but you can also call me the Hawaiian Tree Fern. I'm a very popular ornamental here in Hawaii. Hotels as well as office buildings use me to bring elegance to a garden area. Even islanders love my lacy green fronds, and in the wetter areas of the various islands, you will see me gracefully adorning their gardens. Native to the Hawaiian Islands, I thrive in the moist, shaded forests of the mountains, where I play a vital role in the ecosystem.

As I mature, I can grow to heights of 10 to 30 feet, producing a thick, upright trunk that can reach up to 1 foot in diameter. My fronds can spread out to 6 feet long, creating a beautiful, cascading effect that adds elegance to any space. The vibrant green color of my foliage provides a lush backdrop, making me a favorite among those looking to create a tropical atmosphere.

Some believe I can only thrive outdoors, but I can adapt well to indoor environments with the right care. Additionally, while I enjoy indirect light, I should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can scorch my delicate fronds.

After you plant me, you can expect to see healthy growth within a few months. While I may take a couple of years to reach my full height and produce new fronds, the wait is worth it! For optimal results, place me in a spot with bright, indirect light, such as near a window or in a well-lit room that mimics my natural forest habitat.

Rest assured, I can thrive indoors during harsher weather and outdoors when conditions are nice. With the right care, I’ll bring a touch of the Hawaiian rainforest into your home.
