Aloha!

I’m a Hibiscus cutting, known for my large, vibrant flowers and lush green foliage. I belong to the Malvaceae family and have a rich history, originating from tropical regions around the world. My beautiful blooms have made their way to Hawaii, where I was introduced in the 19th century and quickly became a beloved symbol of the islands.

In 1988, I was honored as the official state flower of Hawaii, specifically the yellow hibiscus (Hibiscus brackenridgei). This designation reflects my significance to the islands, as I embody the spirit of aloha and the natural beauty of Hawaii. My bright and cheerful blooms are often associated with the islands' lush landscapes and tropical climate, making me a fitting symbol for the state. The yellow hibiscus is not only admired for its beauty but also for its resilience, thriving in the diverse Hawaiian environment.

As I mature, I can grow into a bushy shrub that reaches heights of 4 to 10 feet, depending on the variety. My striking flowers can be found in a wide range of colors, including red, pink, yellow, and orange, often with contrasting centers. The blooms can be up to 6 inches in diameter and typically last for just a day, making my garden a constantly changing tapestry of color.

After you plant my cutting, you can expect to see healthy growth within a few weeks. While it may take about 6 to 12 months for me to establish myself and produce my first blooms, the wait is well worth it! For optimal results, place me in a bright location with plenty of indirect sunlight, such as near a window with sheer curtains or in a well-lit room that mimics my tropical environment.

Rest assured, I can thrive indoors during harsher weather and outdoors when conditions are nice. With the right care, I’ll bring a touch of tropical beauty into your home.
