Tree Fern [Cibotium splendens]
Product Description
Aloha! I’m the Hawaiian Tree Fern, known locally as Hāpuʻu (Cibotium splendens). I’m a native treasure of Hawaii’s misty upland forests — loved for my graceful, lacy fronds and ancestral presence in gardens across the islands. You’ll find me lining trails, shading waterfalls, or growing proudly in Hawaiian yards and hotel courtyards.
I grow slowly but surely, reaching up to 30 feet tall over time. My fuzzy brown fronds unfurl like ancient scrolls, bringing an otherworldly, prehistoric charm. With moist air, indirect light, and consistent care, I’ll grow into a true garden guardian.
I don’t come from a nursery tray — I’m harvested as a keiki (baby offshoot), ready to grow with you for decades.
What You’ll Get
One (1) Hawaiian Tree Fern keiki (3–5" wide, 10–12" tall). Tip will begin unfurling fronds with proper care.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light; protect from hot sun
- Water: Keep evenly moist; mist often in dry air
- Fertilizer: Use a diluted, organic fertilizer every 6–8 weeks
- Growth Rate: Slow — long-living and steady
- Other Notes: Excellent for shaded gardens or large indoor spaces; iconic to Hawaiian rainforests
